Girl talk

Meghan: I really like your ring.
Me:Thanks! You know, I don't know where I got this ring. You would think a ring THIS big, I would recall getting it, but I don't. I mean...maybe it was a gift...
Meghan: Maybe you stole it.
Me: Right! Maybe I just lifted it as a rebellious teen.
Nicole: Perhaps you made it.
Me: Yeah. I mean, perhaps it was forged in the fires of Mount Doom. Who's to say?
Meghan: That ring may have evil powers.
Me: It must be destroyed.

Warning: Some Sketch comedy scenes could incite an orgy

There will be women there, and I don't want any of them to be uncomfortable. I mean, there will be drinking so there's no telling what could happen.

Just Long Enough (or perhaps too long)

The Idiot Gods have smiled down on me in the form of this ridiculous customer interaction. I am so thankful that I was able to work here long enough to receive this call. It is like nothing I have experienced! And that is coming from a person who once spent twenty minutes on a call with a schizophrenic girl who begged for my job and a lady who claimed she was fired because her boss was fat and bitchy.

I like to call this one "Hi. Welcome to the World."

Me: Second City Box Office?
Her: Yeah, this is the box office?
Me: Yes, it is!
Her: Oh, well I wanted Second City.
Me: This is Second City.
Her: Well, I went to your website, but it said 'Welcome to the Box Office'
Me: Right, it's the Second City box office.
Her: I want tickets for Fair and Unbalanced on the 13th of June. Is that a show you have?
Me: Yes, it is.
Her: I just don't know if this is your website. There's nothing telling me it's not, but I don't know. It says 'box office'
Me: Ma'am a box office is a general name for any place at a theater where a person could buy tickets. Every theater has a box office.
Her: Yeah, but...do you sell through TicketMaster? I'm scared to put my credit card into the computer if this isn't your site. Is your website just thesecondcityboxoffice.com?
Me: No, actually. It's just www.secondcity.com and "second" is all spelled out. We sell tickets through Laughstub. That's the ticketing system.
Her: I just don't know about buying these on here.
Me: Well, I can sell you tickets over the phone. This is...the box office for Second City, so why don't we just do that?
Her: No. No, I think I'll try this first.

For the record, I did go look at our website to see if I could clear up her confusion. If you navigate from the main page, to the show calendar, to the "Buy Tickets" tab you get to this page:

The fun did not stop there. Just as I screencapped this photo, she called back.

Her: Hi, I am trying to get these tickets off your website. I believe I just spoke with you.
Me: Yes, you did.
Her: Right, so there's no place for me to put my address. How will they mail my tickets if I don't put that in.
Me: We don't mail your tickets. You pick them up when you arrive.(She is still in some state of denial that I actually sell tickets to these shows, I guess. And then...just for shits and giggles, I finished with.) At the box office. Here.
Her: Right. Okay, so when can I get them?
Me:Any time after you place the order?
Her: But I could wait until show time?
Me: Right. So, any time after you order, you can swing by the box office and grab those tickets.
Her: Oh, I don't know where we're staying so I don't know when I can come, but before show is fine?
Me: Right.
Her: And what time could I come if I wanted to pick them up before show time?
Me: Well, the box office here at the Second City is pretty much open all day. We're here all day selling tickets and can also print ones that are already purchased for shows.
Her: Well, then I'll just buy these from the site as long as you can assure me this site is secure.
Me: Yes, ma'am. It is secure. If you went to secondcity. com, that is our website.
Her: Well, no other site sells your tickets, right?
Me: That's right!
Her: Okay, good.

She wasn't finished...

Her: Hi. I am on your website and-
Me: Yes?
Her: Well, my husband wanted me to check on this. I clicked on the tickets where it said "Welcome to the Box Office" and it took me to www.laughstub.secondcity.--
Me: Ma'am, Laughstub is our ticketing system.
Her: So this is secure?
Me: I assure you that everything will be fine with your order. I promise.

Nice job, caregiver

Her: Yeah, my friend is doing a midnight improv show. And, I'm just wondering if you think that would be an okay place for a kid or not really.
Me: I would say that it isn't.
Her: Why? Because of language.
Me: Possibly. We recommend 17 and up for all shows. With it being an improv show, we really don't know ahead of time what is going to be said. So, yeah, I would say it would be a bad idea to bring a child for that fact.
Her: So, if I bring the kid, will you just not let us in?
Me: How old is the kid?
Her: Seven.

Seven. Never you mind our age minimum being (inexplicably) ten years old, why won't he be in bed at midnight? The little scamp needs a night of 'fucks' and blowjob jokes before being tucked in, I guess. Ahh, to be young...

Details, please.

"Hi. My friend thinks she left her purse there. It's made of fabric...kind of like a bag."
"Okay, could you describe it, please?"
"It was made of fabric. And...the fabric...had a print on it. Also, her wallet is in it."

That's it? Check out this definition of the word "purse."
purse (pûrs)
n.
1. A woman's bag for carrying keys, a wallet, and other personal items; a handbag.
2. A small bag or pouch for carrying money.
3. Something that resembles a bag or pouch.

For starters, I don't understand how you walk out of a theater without your purse but, let's assume for courtesy's sake that she isn't dumb. It was just an oversight- a gigantic oversight. Also, let's imagine she's drunk. Now, this show took place at 7pm last night-17 hours prior to this inquiry to lost and found. Don't you think this is a thing she would notice before 12:30 the next day? "Oh, bumskies, you guys. My bag is like...totes not here." And wouldn't she want to make this phone call rather than having her valley girl-sounding friend do it? (Uh...BTDubs, the valley girl is like sooooooo 80's.)

A note to the friend: Sweetie, I bet you're real pretty, but let's break it down here. First off, I hope you were able to read the definition of "purse" that I so graciously posted for you. Here is a challenge for you that differs from the cumbersome task of walking and breathing at the same time that you seem to struggle with daily. (Fun!) Find a purse that does not meet at least one, if not all, of the following requirements:
1. "Kind of like a bag."
2. Made of fabric and the fabric has print on it.
3. Has a wallet inside.

It will be tough, but I think you can do it. In addition, learning how to describe things utilizing names of colors is a great skill to have in your "kind of like a bag" of tricks.

*Note* The bag depicted here is, in fact, not the missing one, but is it not adorable?

Dear Dude...

Dude:Yeah, I wanna get some tickets
Me: Okay. For when?
Dude: 8 o'clock, Friday. Absolute Best Friggin' Time of Your Life...
Me: I'm showing that as sold out on Friday at 8.
Dude: Really? That's...weird.
Me: We have the premium seats available for Spoiler Alert.
Dude: What are those.
Me: $46 reserved. Best seats in the house guaranteed.
Dude: Hmmm...what about Saturday at 8?
Me: Nothing is available. We're sold out.
Dude: Thursday?
Me: Both 8pm shows are available on Thursday.

Five minutes later...

Dude: Hey, I wanna get some tickets.
Me: Okay...
(silence)
Me (again): For when?
Dude: What's available on Saturday at 8?
Me: Nothing.
Dude: Not a thing?
Me: No, sir. We're sold out. We have the 11 pm shows available.
Dude: And all you have on Friday are the premiums?
Me: Yes, for Spoiler Alert.
Dude: How does Thursday look? I got some people drivin' in...
Me: All shows are available on Thursday.

He calls back...again...

Dude: Hey! Me again. Wantin' to get some tickets. (Too familiar, buddy. I get a lot of calls. Yes, I do remember your creepy voice, but that won't always be the case.)
Me: Alright...(More inappropriate silence that does not help speed along the transaction in the slightest. Come on, dude. This isn't hard. Give me some more information. The fact that you want to get tickets is a given, as you are calling a box office! Still, I take the bait. Apparently he likes for me to ask the questions.) When were you thinking of coming to a show?
Dude: I want those premium seats on Friday for Absolute Best Friggin Time
Me: There aren't any. That show is sold out. We only have tickets available for Spoiler Alert and they are premium.
Dude: Alright, then, I'll take those.
Me: How many are you looking for?
Dude: 11. (Eleven?! Just eleven people cruising into Chitown and think they can all get tickets to a show last minute?)
Me: I'm sorry, sir. There are only 7 available.
Dude: Oooooooooh. Ooooooooooooooh. Ooooooooooooooh. How does Thursday look?

So your short term memory also took your common sense during the divorce, I see.

Listen. To. Me.

Caller: What shows do you have for Saturday?
Me: We have the 11pm show.
Caller: Oh, the 11 is all you have?
Me: Right.
Caller: Do you have any earlier shows?
*Hatchet to the face

Caller: I wanted to get tickets for your ETC show on Saturday but the website says you are sold out, so can I get tickets?
Me: No ma'am, because the show is sold out.
Caller: And what Saturday will you have availability at 8pm?
Me: Saturday the 19th is the next upcoming Saturday with availability at 8.
Caller: Do you mean March 19th?
*This call took place today, February 22nd...so...ya know...post February 19th.

Me: Box office.
Caller: Yeah, I need to talk to someone about classes.
Me: Let me give you the number to the training center.
Caller: Well, maybe you can help me. I want to take a stand up class...stand up 101, but I don't have any stage experience. I didn't know if that was a prerequisite for classes or if it would be okay for me to start in the beginning level without it.
Me: Yeah...this is the box office.
*Where's the tequila?

If you open your ears upon asking your first question you will, more than likely, have no further questions.

Half of the conversation 1/4/11

Things I heard my coworkers say into the phone:

Betsy: We don't have anything to do with Movie Tickets. com, so I don't think that's us...Yes...Oh, yes, that is a movie. . . Yes, that's got Vince Vaughn in it, so I didn't sell you that.

Danny:
That's C...No. C as in cat. . . C, like in cat?...Um, meow-meow...No, meow, as in a cat...(Then he just started impersonating a cat.)

Friday, December 31, 2010

Yeah, it's been a while...

It's a jolly holiday, isn't it?

Caller: I was listening to the message about tonight's shows and I want you to know I'd like to see that Spoiler Alert show.

Me: Unfortunately, though, as the message said, we are sold out this evening.

Caller: Oh. Well, I was looking at the online thing and thought about buying tickets but I only need one ticket.

Me: Okay, but sadly we are sold out for the shows tonight.

Caller: But do you do any last minute rush tickets?

Me: No, we don't. There are no tickets available for tonight's shows.

Caller: Oh, so it really means sold out.

Me: Yes. As sold out show means the show is sold out.

Caller: So, like, but could I just get one ticket online or how can I do that?

Me: You can purchase up to ten tickets online.

Caller: So I could get one?

Me: You could just get one, yes. Or you could get more than one. But you can't get more than ten.

Caller: So I can do that for tonight?

Me: Not tonight, no, because we're sold out.

Caller: Oh! Well what about any other show?

Me: There are no shows tonight with ticket availability as per the message at the beginning of the call.

Caller: What about on other stages?

Me: All shows, all times, all stages are completely sold out tonight at the Second City.

Caller: Oh, so there are no tickets for tonight. How much are tickets?

And then I shot myself.

me: do you have that pic of me and you sitting on the counter in your mom's kitchen from 1997 saved on your computer?
Emily: looking..... while listening to tootsie roll

Is this a question?

"Yeah, hi. I've never been to your venue before, and I had a few questions. I saw here on your website you have a show that is holiday themed and, what we're looking at is December 4th. We'll be in town that weekend and we need to get two tickets for a show and were just wondering about it. It also says here you can do a pre-show dinner package and that gets you special seating with restaurants in the area, and I saw that O'Brien's is one, which is something we would be interested in and, I found this on your website, though now I can't seem to pull it back up. You also have a deal with the James Hotel, or something like that."

Where were the questions? I must've fallen asleep before you asked them. There wasn't a question mark on the end of any of those run on sentences. Not one!

Seriously, who IS on first?

Caller: Yes, I want tickets for this Saturday's main stage performance.
Me: I'm sorry, all of our shows on Saturday are completely sold out.
Caller: Oh, well what about the other show?
Me: It's sold out.
Caller: When is your next availability?
Me: Well, we have main stage at 11pm tomorrow night, then both stages have tickets this Sunday at 7pm.
Caller: So, all shows are available tomorrow?
Me: No. Only the mainstage. At 11pm.
Caller: So that's both 11pm shows tomorrow.
Me: No, sir. We only have one show with availability tomorrow and it is the main stage at 11pm. All other shows are sold out.
Caller: And then you're sold out the rest of the weekend?
Me: No. Here's what we have-- tomorrow, Friday, at 11pm, we have one show. It is on the main stage and it is available. Every thing else is sold out. Then, on Saturday, we are completely booked. Then, on Sunday BOTH stages have tickets available for shows at 7pm.
Caller: So you're sold out for tomorrow?
Me: Not for everything, no. The only show we do have is Mainstage at 11pm.
Caller: And then Saturday is open.
Me: No, sir, Saturday is not open. It is sold out. Our next available day would then be Sunday.
Caller: For just main stage.
Me: No. For both shows.
Caller: And then you have both shows tomorrow at 11.
Me: No. Just main stage.
Caller: And then you've got tickets for Saturday at 7.

Holy. Crap.

It had to happen sooner or later...

To the woman who saw "WILL CALL" on her invoice and thought she had to call the box office to reserve tickets she'd already paid for...congratulations. You, madam, have destroyed what little faith I had left in humanity. It's been a long time coming, and many have gotten close, but you take home the coveted prize. Best of luck de-evolving back into an ape.

Too Little, Too Late

Well they just keep pouring in today...

Negligence: I need to get tickets for Saturday night at 8.
Me: I'm sorry, sir all of those shows are sold out on Saturday.
Negligence: Dammit! It's my anniversary.
Me: I'm sorry, sir.
Negligence: Not your fault I just should have called earlier! I thought about it because I did some group sales through you guys for work and I got my invoice and decide...Anyway, are you sure? It's sold out? Are you checking?
Me: I've checked. It's sold.
Negligence: Dammit. I really could use a laugh that night.

Or...a divorce. Just get a divorce, please.

It's Time for an Episode of What I Said vs. What I SHOULD HAVE Said

Caller: Yeah I need to talk to someone in your lost and found. I came to the show last night and I think I left a key there.
Me: Okay, was it a car key?
Caller: Just a silver house key.
Me: Well, anything like that would be put in the safe and the night managers are the only ones with access. If you want to call back some time after four, they'd be able to look into that for you.
Caller: Yeah, but I'm locked out of my house right now. Can anyone help me?

WHAT I SAID
Me: Let me give you the number to the administrative line...

WHAT I SHOULD HAVE SAID
Me: Wait, you lost your house key last night and you're just now calling to ask us if we have it because you're locked out of your home?! Oh. This must mean you had sex last night. Well fuck you.

Click.

Great Moments in Human Stupidity, vol. a gazillion

"Yeah, I heard your message saying you're sold out for tonight. Do you have any tickets for groups of 16 or more?"

Wow...

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

This isn't really about her. Calm down.

Insanity.

Defined as "a relatively permanent disorder of the mind."

You're reaching it. Why? Here's a check off list of everything you've got to do for the next two weeks? Why a check off list? Because they're fun to type. Stop judging. Why are you reading this anyway if you don't like it? It's for your own good.

June 29
*Work from 9-4
*Sit at home, and search for some sort of cheap/inexpensive dinner between hours of 4:30 and 6, because pay day isn't until tomorrow.
*6pm...start getting ready for rehearsal.
*6:30pm leave for rehearsal
*7pm be at rehearsal and fight people until 10pm
*10:30pm watch "Skins." Yes, it is important. Fuck you, anyway!
*11pm Try and sleep. Luckily it's not hot and humid in the apartment this week, because holy balls!

June 30
*7am wake up
*Work 9-4 (Did I mention work was on the phone for seven straight hours talking to legitimate monsters? Not cool monsters like from Frankenstein or something like that, but scary, terrible human beings who are mean, shallow, and demanding of your time.)
*For the afternoon of June 30, please SEE ABOVE (i.e. June 29, because it is the same)
*10pm-til ? - photos for show
* Such and such o'clock- Go to bed and not sleep well, because you didn't watch "Skins."

(Please keep in mind you are not watching "So You Think You Can Dance" this season due to scheduling conflicts and who knows what you'll do when "Weeds" comes back! Also, this blog entry keeps getting interrupted by phone calls by the monsters, and not Lady Gaga's monsters either. But, Allie Debard's friends who lack the mental capacity it takes to order their tickets properly, sending me into a spiteful rage.)

July 1
*wake up at 8, though the cat probably got you up at 5. Thanks for nothing, cat.
*work from 10-4 dealing with those monsters again. Meanwhile, Allie Debard's friends' show doesn't happen until July 9, so they'll probably still be calling.
*4-6pm eat and write a rent check that kills your spirit and say to yourself and the person at the McDonald's drive thru window,
"I'd go shopping for something healthy if I had the time. Seeing as heart disease runs in my family, that should be the only thing I'm doing. But, alas, other people go to the grocery as well, and when other people are there, it takes forever. Factor in traffic, plus the jacked up pricing and it's an overall stressful trip. Number three with a Coke, please. Non diet."

July 2
*wake up at 8 again, but the cat's still bitching, so you know the drill
*Work from 10-4 and cry over my sad bank account
*Fight the urge to spend $40 on margaritas and Mexican food to wash away the Allie Debard and Co.
*Get wasted

July 3
*Be hung over, but get up because the sun is out, it's July 3rd and your body still has no idea what a tan is, let alone how to acheive one while indoors.
* Get wasted.
*Eat

July 4
*Celebrate independence by eating, drinking, sitting outside and maybe watching a movie

July 5
This is a week from hell, so I hope you're ready:

*Work 9-4
*rehearsal 7-til ?

July 6
Same as the 5th

July 7
Same as the 5th and 6th

July 8
Should probably consider doing laundry after your 10am appointment
Then rehearsal til who knows when
You'd better hope you get to watch "Skins"
Also, you have a preview performance, not a rehearsal. So scratch that one part, but still...you're at the theater til close to 10pm.

July 9
Work 9-4
Preview performance
Think about Allie Debard and consider going to work just to throw rocks at her and her idiotic friends.

July 10
Try and do nothing til you have to be at the theater. Realize that probably won't work. You will also, most likely, have an improv show after your preview show which means you will be awake until 2am, but you don't have to work on the 11th. Or do you? You can't remember. You should probably have wine now.

July 11
Get lost in your own home and piss yourself on the way to the bathroom.

July 12
Show has previewed so all you have is work. Oh...and then a rehearsal. You forgot about rehearsal.

July 13
Work. Again. 9-4. No more Allie Debard though, right?

July 14
Go to your 8:45am appt.
Punch someone, because you need it.
Pick up rehearsal. Yes? No? You don't know.
Also, you have to find some time to do a voice over. It's needed.
"Skins"? It is your day off, right? Most likely not. Not even on your day off. Or is it a day off? Because you've got that second job you nearly forgot about. Rats. Ass.

July 15
Cry when you hear the work "tickets"
Also, you're working 9-4

July 16
The show opens, it finally opens. You're working before that happens though. Then, you're getting drunk.

July 17
Wait. Are you working today? Don't know. You might be puking though, or perhaps crafting a weapon out of yarn and construction paper.
*3pm=Target practice, scratch that! DRUNKEN target practice
*8pm show, which means you'd better have been at the theater an hour ago.

July 18
Work from 11-4.
Also, there's a troll at work and it is scary.
And those damned monsters.
*7pm show, call time was 6. I hope you weren't late.
*9pm go home. Cry. Write about it. Remember that July is nearly over now and you've yet to save money for moving expenses. Curse your minimal income. Kick someone in the guts.
*Piss. Go to bed.
*Wake up at 3am. Forget where you live.

Emma Watson's check off list was brought to you by Casey Pilkenton and a lack of sleep. And that Corona she has.

Conversations at work

After doing a short bit, complete with a character voice for someone named "Greggles"
